Identification request

The attached photos are from a lady in Cooperstown, ND, Zone 4.

This rose she bought from Gurneys circa 1960.

It is a Winnipeg Parks color. Once blooming. Healthy and tip hardy. It appears to be semi-double. The leaves are somewhat rugose but not full-on rugosa.

She brought me a branch and I might be able to root some cuttings. I really like the photos.

Any ideas?

Foliage and hips. The hips had about two or three seeds each.

Hmmm. It sure reminds me of the very hardy hybrid gallica ‘Alika’.

‘Alika’ was my first thought too.

Gosh, I hope not. I’ve had Alika and it was a dog, suckering like mad and getting spots. For me it was more arching and less bushy than this photo.

However with this lady being in North Dakota there might be less disease pressure and she is in Zone 4a rather than my 3b, which might affect the plant habit.

I’m hoping it’s one of Hansen’s roses, since he was in South Dakota and Gurneys is I think based in SD…

And upon looking up Alika on HMF I see it was a Hansen selection and yes indeed it looks just like this including the hips.

Were the goats real? Apparently they are tip hardy in that zone as well -

It looks like R. Splendens which is very hardy here in Finland.
