How coincidental, my R primula first to bloom this year …. been awhile it took that annual honour … beat R. altaica this year … anemia and all … two drenchings and greening well and blooming

Beautiful!
I just saw a bush of Harison’s Yellow down in Kansas where I had planted it 40 years ago, and this year it had a super bloom early May. Pix are May 9. Still did not set seed though. All green hips were soft by the end of May.

Stefan,
I made a paltry three crosses of fresh Rosa primula pollen on Rosa rubinigosa down in Kansas over the Memorial Day weekend. Time and pollen were short. Rosa rubinigosa bloom was almost over. Stigmas were green.

I’ll be very interested to hear if anything develops from those! I wonder how many breeders have traveled such long distances with pollen to make crosses. It would be fun to see that hard work pay off.
