I bought 2 Golden Horizons when Paul B. mentioned them last Fall and one of them has a stem from the bottom of the plant which is about 4 feet tall and growing. Does not do well for the front of the border. Is this a climber sport or will they all get this big or bigger? Lot of buds on the branch but none open yet.

Ummm…four feet??? I have had two plants of ‘Golden Horizon’ for four years, since before it was a named variety, and neither has yet exceeded 18" tall. I wonder if you have the correct variety.
I got them from NorEast, of course this Spring I ordered Gina’s rose from Noreast and it turned out to be My Stars which I already had. And I was really wondering about how long the yellow lasts on these plants. Paul you said they held their yellow color well and I did not find that they held it very long. I suppose I will observe them a while longer and see what happens. Thanks Paul.

Something I noticed today is that my golden Horizons have very few thorns. There are only a very few on the bottom 1/3 of the plant on the large stems the top 2/3 are completely thornless. If this is not Golden Horizon then tomorrow I will order one from Burlington if there are any left.

Mine are modestly thorny from the base to close to the blooms, although the frequency drops off considerably on the upper blooming shoots. Thorns are red and curved.
