Anyone work with this rose to achieve hardy red roses?
Is it a fertile rose accepting of pollen?
Does it produde o/p hips?
What size are the hips, and how much seed do they yield?

Dee,
I made my first crosses with ‘Hope for Humanity’ this year with ‘Henry Kelsey’ and ‘Morden Sunrise’. The latter is an experiment to obtain bicolours. I don’t expect to get disease resistant progeny from this cross.
Yes, it is very fertile as a pistillate parent. I can’t say yet how well the seeds germinate. It likely produces o.p. hips. The hips are relatively small, about 3/4" in diameter. My hips aren’t mature yet, so I don’t know how many seeds they contain. My guess is 10 - 12.
I ordered humanity for this fall, good to hear it is fertile! Thanks for the info. Paul, does it have any BS or PMD?

Timothy,
‘Hope for Humanity’ in cold climates (Zone 3) is relatively disease resistant. Apparently in some warmer climates though, it can get some blackspot.
Tim, please note that “Humanity” and “Hope for Humanity” are two different roses.
Rob
Yeah I discovered that last night. it’s a differ rose.
