Hip hip, HARVEST!

So it begins. The (glauca x nutkana) was first to ripen.

(François Juranville x Danäe)

(Sweet Chariot x Danäe), manual repeat of bee-made cross from 2025 that flowered this season. VERY excited for these! They are quite BIG seeds for SC, too.

Do you find that your Sweet Chariot hips take forever to turn color? I harvested two today that were still completely green even though the cross was done almost six months ago. None of her other hips are in any hurry to turn either. I’m in Zone 9A on the Gulf Coast, and I’ve noticed in the past that roses that are heavily influenced by multiflora tend not to color their hips here until after first frost regardless of the date the cross was made.

Hello from the other side, Mark! I’m on Vancouver Island, in BC, Canada. Zone 7b, with hot dry summers and mild wet winters. SC hips colour up eventually, and this handmade one was getting to be a nice orange when I plucked it. My other two heavily-multiflora derived plants (Ballerina & Trier) also colour up noticeably for me, usually around three-four months.
