Hardwood Cuttings Surviving Outdoors in OR

I thought I would show some pictures to those of you in Southern California who rarely see snow. I recently bragged about a 90% survival rate of my hardwood cuttings outdoors…we shall see if they survive the cold this winter. We have an east wind coming through the Columbia Gorge turning rain into snow, and we might have freezing rain tomorrow. The orchids are inside blooming, while outside my rose garden is covered in snow and ice. 50 years ago when I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley, CA, I planted cymbidium orchids outdoors under the crepe myrtle trees.

That was back when it used to rain in San Gabriel, John. It’s so dry here now (how dry IS it?), I have to water the Billbergia nutans. Those usually survive without anything.

I’m distracted by those beautiful moth Orchids
