Hi All,

I’m not sure that this has been mentioned here yet. Alain Meilland is the featured speaker at “Great Rosarians Of the World”, and will be speaking this Sunday at the Huntington Botanical Center. Here is what is on the site:

We are delighted to announce that our speaker/honoree for GROW XII will be Alain Meilland of Meilland International, the legendary French rose company that boasts six generations of family ownership and management.

The dates for GROW XII will be January 21-22, 2012. The Saturday program will be a workshop and panel discussion on pruning and growing Old Roses in Southern California using sustainable horticulture. This event will be held in the Rose Garden or Teaching Greenhouse (in the case of inclement weather) at the Huntington Botanical Gardens from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm.

M. Meilland’s program will be on Sunday, January 22, at 2:00 pm. The program will be held in Friends’ Hall, across from the main entrance at the ticket booth at the Huntington.

Tickets for both Saturday and Sunday programs will be $50.00 per person and include a box lunch on Sunday.

We are just back from the GROW XII event. It was a real treat meeting Alain Meilland! His presentation was of family, friends and roses - a very good educational experience. As many of you already know, the only AARS winner for 2012 was their rose ‘Sunshine Daydream’ that performed very well under no spray conditions. The presentation was dedicated to Alain’s father, Francis Meilland, who if still living, would be 100 years old next month.
