Tempting, very tempting. Basically I have a 1 in 1 put beginning on my breeding bed… So it has to be very worth it for what I want to achieve.
Have any of you who are really interested in golden wings? Taken a look at david austin’s seedlings that he’s released from it? I apologize for any weird spelling or punctuation, I’m using Google’s improved AI. Voice typing it’s garbage
I wasn’t aware he had, which ones are they?
He introduced ‘Windrush’ as an “improved Golden Wings”, which I find laughable. Granted, I have not seen it IRL, but that says to me that it can’t be that great, ya know? I don’t know if he went on from it, I’d imagine so, but the last decade of releases is basically an unending stream of pink and I’m over it.
I mean appears to repeat flower less, be slightly less yellow. May be slightly healthier? Any other known hybrids from this rose?
@VanIsleDWSmith I bought a golden wings which has quite a few hips by now and I was wondering how do you stratify your golden wings seeds? In your experience do they need the spinosissima stratification time of two cycles or does 3 months stratification do the trick?
I sowed limited numbers of seed from OP hips over two years, and got some-but-not-great germination from regular stratification both years. Nothing wonderful came of it, but I’ve kept one vigorous but blackspotty plant that has yet to show a flower. It’s likely to be composted next year, regardless of whether it flowers or not.
