German thesis blackspot

In 2013 Enzo was just starting his graduate research when the International Symposium on Rose Research and Cultivation was held there in Hannover. Him and other graduate students did a wonderful job helping Dr. Debener and the rest of the organizing committee host a great conference. Enzo and his mentors have done some very valuable research helping us better understand the genome of the fungus that causes black spot and the genes that are being expressed in roses when challenged with the isolate of black spot they studied as well as powdery mildew. Enzo is on the left in this photo.

Very interesting work. I don’t see where specific targets for molecular intervention (genetic engineering) have yet been identified but it looks like that would be a next step. Is that something that’s going on now?
