'Geranium Red'

Has anyone grown or have any feedback (re disease, plant habit etc) about this rose (see link)? It has a tonne of descendants and I’m getting a bit interested in some of the older floribunda. This one, from the photos on HMF, to have quite old fashioned style flowers too.

I don’t know anything about it but I like the color and bloom form. Look forward to hearing some experiences with this as well.

‘Geranium Red’ lacks vigor on it’s own roots. It needs to be budded. I’m guessing like many cultivars, this one has degraded over the years.

Most, if not all, are no doubt virused.

I don’t think the growth habit is all that great. The blossoms are wonderful. Repeat could be better for me. It sets hips. I’ve never tried it for seed or pollen but I like it too much to let it go.

This lineage seems to bring up rust over and over again =/ The similarly related Vogue (same era, breeder, similar lineage, same class, etc) is the only one I’d really think of using now, and I would pass on that as well. Its a pretty strong grower with good repeat and Ive never had to spray it here. The color is really dull but its fragrant and hardy. I am guessing the majority of this lineage have mildew issues to one extent or another.

The patent states that the unknown parent half of Geranium Red is an orange floribunda. I am guessing that the orange floribunda is a seedling between Pinocchio and an HT of pernetiana descent.

lol in looking through like 25 or so patents from Boerner, I found one that had a huge ripped hole in it (pp1011). I thought it was funny =/

Of all of the roses from this era and breeder, I’d personally think it’d be the most interesting to try out Red Pinocchio with modern floribundas. I’m amazed that a fragrant red floribunda never really made it into commerce successfully. One would think that it would be popular. The closest to it seems to be Spartan and Red Geranium, which really are not red at all.
