Frozen Seeds

This morning I checked some seeds that I have in the fridge and to my surprize they were frozen. These seeds have been in fridge for anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months. Someone must have bumped the tempature control. I have read that it doesn’t hurt the seeds to freeze them before they are stratified but I don’t know if it hurts them to freeze while they are being stratified. Has anyone had this happen to them and did it harm the seeds?

Thanks,

Paul

Yes, most of mine still germinated just fine.

Thanks Robert, that’s good to know. There are some seeds that are from crosses that might be hard to duplicate as I got pollen from other people.

If I’m not mistaken the time frozen needs to be deducted from chill hours. On the other hand I’ve heard it said that some seed germinates better after light freezing.
