A great performer as a landscape type in my location, much more tidy mounded growth compared to earlier FC predecessors, fantastic health and floriferous.
Got a few OP hips and x8 achenes.
Does anyone here have experience with germination of seed from this CV?
This is my first season with FCA and I really like what I’ve seen. I have no disease and it seems to be fertile both ways. I don’t know about germination yet but will report this fall. The color is very nice and it is fragrant as well.
I prefer FCA to FC Scarlet, which also has great health here, but whose architecture is not in bounds, it is more rambling and throws long asymetrical canes.
I tooootally loathe their prickers … their BIG minus for me.
On the subject of FC, I had germinated a few FC White OP seeds last year… results: all inferior (likely) selfings …similar white flowers and flower structure to FCW, but inferior flower production and in one case a total failure to flower in the first year…I had not counted on that happening for some reason!
Sooo… I’m expecting inferior results in this FCA seed also (if I get a germination or two) … but ya never know … anything is possible especially if bees / pollen loving critters have been busy!
In addition to OP hips forming on FCA, I have a number of planned crosses that also seem to be taking. I’ll report on germination and resulting seedlings. I’m hoping for good things. I used pollen from OSO Easy Paprika, Cal Poly, All A Twitter, and Royal Edward to name a few.
