Fixing Morden Sunrise

‘Mordern Sunrise’ x ‘John Davis’ has yielded me a few selections with very attractive colors. This one comes out the color of a burning sunset and slowly fades and mellows to a pleasant tone. Plant habit is bushy and vigorous and thickly clothed foliage has shown little to no disease in its eight years. Generally, always carrying bloom, but does not seem willing to produce a mass show, though is fertile and may find way into future crosses.

Terry- that’s a beautiful rose. I can see Morden Sunrise in the petal shape. Good to know that it has a lot of good qualities to pass on.

Donald, as for my continued work, I’ve had the below rose for three years now, it has several doses of ‘Morden Sunrise’ in its background and carries very attractive copper hued juvenile foliage on a sturdy compact plant that apparently has at least some degree of female fertility. Because the blooms are very long lasting and just hang on and on, I’ll attempt to cross it with a reliable repeat blooming ‘Hazeldean’ selection of mine that drops its petals all too quickly, maybe some offspring will spilt the difference in that regard. I now seldom do many first generation crosses with ‘Morden Sunrise’ due to disease issues, though crossing it with strongly resistant varieties will at times yield some very lovely results.
