Gorgeous color! Is it fragrant?
Sadly no fragrant.
Fragrant is a thingy with hulthemia hybrides.
I did another sniff and it has a bit fragrant!
I learn a lot from reading these posts! I moved from Minnesota to Berkeley, California last August; planted seeds in outside flats in October; and have seen an unprecedented high rate of germination this year.
Five seedlings from Blanchefleur, 20 from Rosa pisocarpa Siskyou County, (all OP seed) collected in California, And 25 seedlings from a pink polyantha at my daughter’s monastery in southern Greece.
I wonder if it’s the Northern California climate?
I never saw germination rates like this in Kansas, Iowa or in Minnesota, and I’ve been planting seeds since 1981.
BTW I appreciate seeing the pictures of maiden blooms and your discussions!
Yes. It’s California. I ain’t mad.
Fun looking seedlings. Fingers crossed for blotching?
Well that’s lovely, hope it doesn’t get more petals!
There was a 1/2 one I removed. I hope it shown up only at the first bloom. ![]()
Although I have tried numerous times to germinate OP seed of Kordes’ lovely ‘Nymphenburg’ without success, I did put some more into the fridge this year (as well as using its pollen rather a lot on good germinators), and to my surprise ONE seed cracked open to show a lovely plump embryo!!
It has been plucked from the baggie of its siblings and is now in a 2” pot in my orchid room under lights. I have crossed my fingers, legs and eyes in hopes that it will grow.
Wish me luck!
I’m pretty excited for this guy. It is my first seedling from my first hip from my first cross-pollination. And aside from the scentimental value, its large, glossy foliage really makes it stand out from the rest of the pack. Especially considering that it’s several weeks younger than most of the seedlings in this picture:
Thats a keeper for sure. Lets hoop it will give a cute flower and stay reasonable healthy.
Still have my first two from long time ago. Even one has bs fast I will not toss it away. Both are Golden Celebration x Pink Cloud of I am correct…could also been Golden Celebration x Westerland…it has been a while. One is yellow and the other is orange. The orange flowers are big like huge lemons.
