Enough was enough so a few days ago all the remaining hips where picked. You get a clue some of these where not ready when you end up with eight inches of stem with the hip or after shreding the pedical only the nippers save the whole bush from becoming uprooted.
This last round produced about an additional 5K of seeds. A gallon of hips from from Strick it Rich gave about 1K of seeds and they look good, so I hope for 100 germinations. Joycie had about 300 seeds and most where bleached out(when crushed nothings there) with hope of a dozen germinations from stiffener pollen. Most of the seeds this year are of unknown germination rates with only a few hips of KNOWN performers as control units.
The seeds where dried from days to weeks this year just because I like to try something different and for self preservation from overload. They are all sown now in twelve jam packed trays with sterilized home made compost.
The compost used was the worse produced in years. Way too much wood in it and now has some perilite added along with Mycorhizal Fungi.
With less than ideal processing it’s going to be interesting to see what happens. My guess is no matter what, some of these are going to grow. If the average person was given a packet of rose seed I doubt they would go though any elaborateness like we normally do. Neil
