Dr. Huey as a seed parent?

Wondering if anyone has tried growing seedlings from Dr. Huey. These are OP seedlings. Will they have the same rose mosaic virus?

Thank you

Soooo, were you able to get OP seed and germinate seedlings off your DH??

That is fantastic if ya did!

Here where I live local plants may produce one or lucky two red hips for the entire season, and I have never gotten a germination, yet!

I once got a seedling from Dr. Huey that was a medium red, quite similar in colour to that of it’s neighbour Red Hot.

I should have said “these would be” op seedlings if they germinate. Looking at the plant, and wondering whether to bother trying, or just cut off spent flower buds.

That depends upon how perverse you’re feeling. hehehe It MAY lead to an improved, clean root stock, or it may result in an even uglier, invasive rose. Kim

If you live in a hot climate, the virus will be mainly in the roots so the chance of getting a virused seed would be very small.

If you are a cool climate hybridizer, the situation is not as clear. 2 % infected seeds were observed in 2 batches of seedlings in England, and northern U.S. rose hybridizers have occasionally observed virused seedlings.

The behavior dependends on the rose’s immune system. See link below.
