After driving around from nursery to nursery for hours today with little luck finding many minis, I did find Cherry Sunblaze. Has anyone used this one or Debut, from which it sported, as a parent?
I was disappointed at how few minis there were at any of the nurseries. There were some of the “Drift” series but I don’t know anything about those so I decided not to pick up any.
Rob
The Drift series are non-miniature but definitely constrained. A few of them have minor amounts of mini in them. Theyre all pretty much modern variations of The Fairy.
I grew both Debut and Cherry Sunblaze at one point. Theyre strong growers that stay within mini bounds. They bloom well and are fairly moderate in most respects. I would rate them as decent garden plants for their time of intro and class.
Thank you Jadae. Do you know if either sets hips?
Sorry, I dont. I was a dead-heading machine back then. If I had to take an intuitive guess, I would say they do.
Bob,
I have collected pollen from ‘Cal Poly’ for you and will mail it as soon as it has dried (hopefully tomorrow AM). Email me your current mailing address, please.

Thank you Jadae.
Paul, I’ve emailed you and thanks again for the offer of Cal Poly.
Paul,
I received your ‘Cal Poly’ pollen in the mail yesterday. Thank you very much.
Rob
Rob, I had ‘Debut’ a few years ago, and if I am remembering right, it did set OP hips.

Thanks Jim. That’s good news. I’ve been using CS pollen on ‘Ruglauca’, ‘Illusion’, ‘Quadra’, ‘Red Eden’, ‘Midnight Blue’ ‘Autumn Sunset’, ‘Westerland’ ,‘Don Juan’ and “Skinner’s Red Leaf Perpetual”. I’ve used pollen from some of these on CS as well. Hopefully something will take.
