I’m just seeing this post. I love the DA Rose, the poets wife.
I’ve used it exclusively as a pollen parent. Most seedlings have not had the strong yellow coloring, but I do have one that is half Hulthemia that is strongly yellow and with some fragrance. I have not used it for a couple years, but still have a few that I am watching.

I love the form of this one! It has great fragrance too! Unfortunatley it is super droopy. Doesnt hold itself up well. Perhaps it would be good to cross climbers with this one. Time to test disease resistance.

Id love to see the half hulthemia seedling! It sounds interesting! Ive wanted to work with hulthemias, but it seems i didnt choose the best plants to work with.

One of the more interesting poets wife seedlings. This one was an intentional cross, but i lost the label indicating the father plant. After seeing the flower, i am 90% sure this is a cross using pollen from a florist rose i received from my boyfriend last year for valentines. The picture is of the flower after a week of the first petal falling down. It is taking its good sweet time to open and will probably have a long vase life. The petals are very substantial. The plant doesnt appear to be very thorny at the moment. My favorite part is the petal color though!!! The petals are very green with a purplish light brown tone. Its been a goal of mine to get more flowers with the brownish hues! This might be a good parent for that. I will probably try to cross my poets wife with more purples now that i know it has potential for this kind of color. I am assuming disease resistance will be awful for this seedling, but here’s to hoping! I would love to test it as a parent to increase petal substance in other varieties prone to balling or loosing petals too quickly. Maybe like rugosas or my tipsy imperial concubine. I havent picked up fragrance yet, but its still fairly closed, i hoping for a little fragrance. I’ll keep yall updated.

After all the seedlings being in my test garden, i believe most of these are selfs and many of them are very disease prone. After seeing my star seedling grow (the very first one i documented in this thread), i strongly believe it is a cross between tipsy imperial concubine and poets wife. It has great form, fragrance, disease resistance, and reasonable bloom power. Its one fatal flaw it has is balling in humid and wet weather. The first few blooms were phenominal, but as the weather has been heating up, none of the flowers make it open and they all rot on the stems :(. Ive noticed similar form and balling issues from tipsy. Tipsy also has similar fragrance notes. It may be worth trying this cross more to see if i can end up with a seedling that resists balling…

Looks overpotted and yet also hungry. Try taking it from the pot, removing the outer compost from the rootball and repotting in a smaller pot with fresh compost.
