Crepuscule ploidy

Adam! Thanks for the extra reply, it all helps “build a picture”.

William Allen Richardson is a diploid, more restrained and much more disease resistant than Cr

Yep, WAR is better here for the reasons Cass stated.

Thanks Cass and Robert for the additional “spin-offs”…I love it!

In what way is William Allen Richardson more disease resistant? I dont have quick access to noisette types due to my climate so theyre still mostly book knowledge to me. I have grown mostly the yellow-toned hybrid musks instead. The majority of them wil even mildew here, which is really annoying. I absolutely adore Danae but it mildews by August here.

I found some really old books on Pemberton but I still have no clue what the real parentage of Danae is. I highly doubt it is Trier selfed or Trier x some random OGR. I actually wondered if it was a WAR hybrid but Im more inclined to believe it is Trier x …something yellow toned with decent stem/foliage abundance. Has anyone tested the ploidy of both Danae and Trier? Theyre said to be diploid but who knows the validity of that. I think that the stated parentage of both are wrong but I have no clue what they could be. The thing about Danae is that the foliage and thorns are very different from the other HMusks. Trier, on the other hand, is much more finite, upright and dwarf-multiflora like.

Jadae,

I don’t find Danae mildewing for me in VA or NY though mildew is rarely a problem here. Interesting points you bring up in that her flower is so fully double and has more substance than most of the HM that I have dealt with.

Hmm, I thought Danae was trier x perle des jardins but I see that HMF doesn’t list it this way…

WAR is definitely more mildew resistant.

I dont know why it mildews here. Personally, it is because the growth tips are way to expedient at pushing out new green growth. It grows lie a weed here. It does not cover in mildew – usually only the end 1/3rd of the canes. My seedling from it is mildew free though. I suppose Danae could be half tea. I wish I knew. Its kind of a unique rose but most of these yellow trailing types we are discussing here are unique among roses.
