Conjoined canes

I was recently gifted a few roses, and this red intuition was one of them.

I wonder what could have caused the rose to form these conjoined canes? Maybe it’s just genetics?

It looks like a case of Fasciation. Fasciation - Wikipedia

This is not genetic it is caused by canes rubbing together due to wind. This finally exposes the cambium layer in both canes causing what is called a nature graft.

A month ago, one of my new cane growth also has this phenomena. It appeared to be flatter in shape when observed from side until the separate point (rectangular shape instead of regular cylinder shape).
