“Birds do it. Bees do it.”
And I can thank the bees for DOING IT! Last summer I thought to myself “Self, you’ll go cross-eyed trying to emasculate ‘Sweet Chariot’ to pollinate it with ‘Danäe’, so why not just put them on the neighbours’ patio together and let the bees have at it!?” So I did.
All grown from ‘Sweet Chariot’ seed.

Thank you! I broke down, took my glasses off and made a couple deliberate repeat-crosses of D this year on SC, so I have a larger group of siblings to select from next year. Though beautifully coloured when freshly opened, these seedlings all fade to creamy-white by days-end. Still a pretty effect en masse, but some staying power would be nice.
I couldn’t have predicted how charmed I would be by the offspring from diploid roses, but here we are!
Another seedling of ‘Sweet Chariot’, again looking like bees used ‘Danäe’ pollen for it. It’s a charming little thing, and will probably make a pretty sight covered in bloom-clusters. Taller than the rest of its siblings has been, I wonder if it will want to climb? Has anyone else had yellow tints from SC seed?
