I wondering if anyone knows anything about the hybrid rugosa Carmen. Does it set hips? I gathered a lot of anthers from Carmen but in the end didn’t get any pollen. I wanted to cross it with Henry Hudson and Moore’s Striped Rugosa. Any experience with any of these roses?
I bought Carmen a few years ago from David Austin, UK, but haven’t used it yet. According to HMF Carmen is tetraploid and one image ('Carmen ' Rose Photo) shows hips. I’m planning to test it both ways next summer. Most yellow/orange/apricot Austins have the F1 rugosa Conrad Ferdinand Meyer in their blood so why not try Carmen as a similar parent of reds.
