What is the best temperature and amount of time for cold-treating rose seeds to optimize the germination rate?
Hi janet welcome to the forum
There is many methods if searching you will find many answers
I put the seeds into the fridge for one or two months
Hi, Janet. Welcome!
If you are like me and really want to avoid your food spoiling, you might have your fridge a bit on the cold side. (Mine tends to be 32 - 33°. The optimum temperature for stratifying rose seeds is usually closer to 40 – say 36-39 (3-4 degrees Celsius.) per, I believe, Paul’s experience.) After turning my fridge colder following issues with food spoilage, my germination success dropped notably.
A small apartment size fridge can becset to a warmer temperature and double for healing in cuttings over winter if you start propagating. Used fridges can sometimes be found cheeply if you really get into this.
Good luck!
