My hybrid of 'Dortmund x ‘Lila Banks’ finally flowered this morning. I was surprised to see it was a semidouble but disappointed more the banksia lineage doesn’t show through in the flower.
I’m fairly certain this IS a hybrid. The only foliage trait that gives any indication is that it is still only producing leaflets of three at this point. The seedling lacks vigor. I harvested this flower and used the pollen on ‘Riverbanks’.
It’s a strange combination. I should have repeated the cross this season but got carried away with other things. I’m actually shocked I have this one seedling. I had many hips abort using Dortmund for seed this season. It seems particular about the pollen it accepts.
