Side question, I thought I remembered Carefree Beauty was triploid? This would answer some questions in my mind.
HMF doesn’t state ploidy. Do we know?
Thanks, Robert

100:1 Carefree Beauty is tetraploid. Very accepting. Never found a pollen to fail on it out of dozens of yellow HT, mini and Fl. Of course also Austrian Copper worked on it in abundance, but I kept few of them. Next gen of all sorts of crosses fertile when tested. So probably stable tetra.
Thanks Larry. We need to update HMF on this point.
I’d like to site a definitive reference.
Anyone have an idea?
Knockout accepted my BL seedlings pollen too… looking forward to seeing how this one turns out.
Simon,
Looking forward to the Knockout BL crosses- you must post photos! Just thinking in my mind of the posssibilities makes me think of a fireworks display.
Jim
It’s just an unripe hip at the moment, Jim. Doesn’t mean a whole lot until those first little leaves pop up
Knockout is a pain in the bum to work with so far. Its rebloom seems to work in flushes and it’s LONG time between flushes!
Simon, you must really live in a different place. Around here, latitude of WAshington DC, KO get’s going and never stops, if provided some water in the drought. Hard-pruned bushes are delayed a couple weeks. Unpruned are some of the earliest blooming. We had good blooms until a month before solstice when it froze too hard. Rainbow KO, pink KO and dbl KO all bloomed with Austrian Copper in spring.
I’d still love a reference to cite as to ploidy for, 'Carefree
Beauty.
David?
I’ve had three flowers on my Knockout in 4 months and the buds on it seem to be frozen in time… It’s only in its first year though… Most rose around here follow the first year they sleep, second year they creep, third year they leap pattern
Even my little ‘Test Tube Baby Love’ has outflowered it and it’s only been on the planet since April 2010.
Not April… Feb. 2010.
Just a little tangent…Is Baby Love (SCRivluv) a true five-petalled single flower, or can it produce more than 5 petals from time to time??
Almost always 5 for me.
