Alexander MacKenzie - has anyone used it?

So the very first explorer rose that I owned I have yet to really use in breeding, Alexander MacKenzie. It is a monster in my backyard. It does not appear to suffer from the leaf spot problems of the other explorers. It has an amazing show of blooms that are a bit like Queen Elizabeth. And it is remarkably hardy, with no cane die back in my zone 5 garden. Downside is definitely the monsterous prickles. They are in a class by themselves.

Has anyone gotten seedlings out of it?

Liz,

Search this forum for a discussion of AM in 2008.

AM is triploid.

Our plants of AM produce many hips; some op seeds germinate, but the resulting plants dont grow much.

Our buck x am crosses never produced anything.

A great variety, but poor breeder; maybe try putting it on diploids?
