Alain Tschanz in Switzerland doesn't have Tigris, either?

Lets do the twist: hulthemia inside!

Arno

Okay, so I guess that I do have T9. I didn’t realize that is was ā€˜Roses are Red’. It had also been nicknamed ā€œred on redā€. Also, I thought that T33 was ā€˜Persian Sunset’??? I don’t think that T2 has been released, but may be wrong about that.

Going back to a basic (and generally uninteresting side of this):

Has anyone kept the lack of stipules going (could this be tied to the splotch)?

Hi Ann, Good question - as far as I know, all of the hulthemia hybrids carried more than one generation away from Hulthemia persica, have come through ā€˜Tigris’. ā€˜Tigris’ has stipules and so do all of the hybrids from it that I have seen. So, to answer your question, it seems that the blotch is not linked to lack of stipules.

Anyone know the ploidy on ā€˜persian flame’? Or if it is at least pollin fertile? I bought one before sequoia closed.

Hi Jim!

I really think that we should doucment the Moore-Hulthemias on helpmefind with more descriptions and own Fotos.

At least I will do that, if they survive, as its a kind of ā€œkismetā€ that 2 of his Hybrids are here now.

And - by the way - is it really true that Sequoia closes!?

Thats sad - and its kind of ā€œAnother Earth Quakeā€ in an area where at least common Earth Quakes are usual. …

Is there really no one following?

Well that makes the Hulthemias even more serious.

Vanity is the scale of lifes value.

Does anyone have Tiger Eyes to breed with?

Link: www.helpmefind.com/rose/pl.php?n=50488

Hi!

Yes, - as I mentioned above (Tiger Eyes is CHEWtingle).

I got it in coordination with Warner and to backcross it to Rosa persica.

And also a few crosses with resistant roses (as Ren

Arno, did Warner disclose the parentage of Tiger Eyes to you?

Rob

Hi Rob,

yes I got these infos, but - as the hybrids are still not in open commercial viability - I don’t know, if its ok and wanted by him that I post these infos here.

The best thing I think is: I would write an email to Warners Roses and, if he thinks its ok to tell you the info, they he will answer you for sure!

The problem is the stage: They bred with Rosa persica descendands since 1982, and they are in a very late stage now!

I really don’t want to disturb this at that moment.

But what I at least can say, according to him CHEWtingle has a good eye, a second crop of flower, - and at least an average black spot resistance.

Greetings from Germany!

Arno

Ok, I understand. Thanks! I hope Warners hybrids will come to be available soon!

Rob

Hi!

Thank you Rob, I really hoped you would understand that point, its really my respect for the intensive and long work of Warner,

that I can’t easily write down here every info I got in a short diskussion with him in the last couple of weeks.

As he is a nice and friendly guy, we all will get good news in Persica I hope.

And access to good material, too.

Greetings from Germany,

Arno

My first Hulthemia derived seedling blossomed today. No blotch. =(

That is one wild lineage set! o_O

I try to think outside the box. lol

Hi!

Today I put away the thin winter protection on top of the pots with my hulthemia mother plants.

We had a pretty warm winter, as last year.

So the temperatures never sunk below 7-8

Hi Robert!

There will of course follow more.

How many seeds did you all together get from your hybrid crosses?

Greetings (keeping fingers crossed)!

Arno

Arno, did you received my email?

I tried to mail you with the link next to your nickname and I was wondering if it was sent to you.

Aufwiedersehen!

Timo

Hi Arno

I did several separate crosses using Jim’s ā€œI89-2ā€ and ā€˜Persian Sunset’ as pollen parent that aren’t as far along yet .

Yes there are several more seedlings from the cross I posted.

This was the first to flower.

There will be plenty more to evaluate. I have my fingers crossed too! Thank you!

Last year was my first season with both pollen parents. They didn’t produce very many blossoms. I think I only collected a half dozen hips or less from each cross. The fertility of the pollen parents is very good compared to what I am used to using.

Robert, too bad on that first one - but you can expect to have a few with blotches from I89-2 (ā€˜Persian Sunset’ is a bit more difficult as many of its seedlings are once bloomers). I89-2 is very fertile as a pollen parent and does pass along the repeat blooming trait and blotch fairly well. In fact some of its seedlings have better blotches than it does. The main problem is thorniness, but that cleans up too.

I have flower buds forming on many of my huthemia crosses and will post photos when a good one shows up.
