This is a F1 Hulthemia hybrid which germinated 2 weeks ago. The germination rate was 50% of the seed which I had sown. The leaves are now starting to segment as the older replaces the first true leaves.

Distant hybridization ?
I bought Rosa berberifolia this spring, and hope I can cross them with rugosas next spring. I hope the “single leaflet” character is not dominant.
It hasn’t appeared to be. I have never seen a Hulthemia hybrid with simple leaves. They’ve all had compound leaflets.
Hannah this is a F1 hybrid.
Kim the leaf to the right is segmenting, its still only small. I have seen a lot of roses when this young have single leaves until their third real set.

Thanks, Warren, the point is, though, they eventually develop compound leaves, so the simple foliage gives way to more “traditional” rose foliage.
Very interesting Warren. Good luck with this one!
Thanks Jim
