Does this sport have fertility, anyone tried it out?
George, it isn’t setting many stamen and the anthers don’t look very well formed. I don’t know how that may change with maturation as my plant is still in a two gallon can and I’m not letting it open all the buds it sets to force it to grow. I don’t know how it will change with the increasing heat and once it attains some size. Kim

I apologize for the clarity of the stamen shot. It fought me each time I tried it, but there are others on HMF from this morning which show the rest of it better. Notice there is pollen released from the anthers this flower formed! Unfortunately, there isn’t anything I want to try it on right now. The thing seems to form stamen and anthers in cooler weather, with many fewer petals. There is one of the previous flower showing how it has deepened with time and the little sun exposure it received yesterday. Weird weather, hotter and sunny then over cast and damp. LOTS of disease! Kinda reminds me of my Hot Cooca (Carruth), where occasional flowers (like 1%) were single /near single in petal count, and these also lacked the chaotic central proliferation which the more double flowers had. I guessed that these single flowers might produce better/more seed, but I never bothered to test out the theroy.
I guess not all flowers on the same bush have the same potential for seed or pollen production?!

I have had it for nearly a decade and it does occasionally set open pollinated hips. However, not one of the seeds has ever germinated; I believe the seeds are always sterile. Mine does produce some normal anthers but I have not tried using the pollen. To be honest, I doubt you should expect results any different from using ‘Old Blush’ from which it likely sported originally.

It really fascinates me how roses can sport so dramatically, and sometimes these sportings could be transmissible to offspring depending on the “L” layer affected.
I now wonder if the single flower mutation I spotted on my Hot Cocoa last year was a sporting itself! I should have considered that at the time and maybe tried to propatate from just under that flower. It really was a pretty sight! Oh well!
Ive seen Coffee Bean sport as a floribunda in a 1 gallon at a local Fred Meyers like 4-5 years ago. However, I am unsure of your single sport because it happens in certain varities when it gets very hot and very dry. Fragrant Delight, for examaple, will do that yearly here. It looks like pastel Playboy. In contrast, look on HMF for one of my pics of Champange Cocktail. That was not a sport. That branch (was actually the whole plant) never repeated that. It was strictly the weather and that specific spring pattern.
