Joe the really good thing is when you look at what some of them have become, gives you a feeling of achievement and satisfaction.
I’ve never had any luck getting my X-Rated to set hips even OP. They always just dry up and fall off. I don’t think I’ve ever tried it as a pollen parent. Seems to me that I recall it was so tiny I couldn’t get any pollen off of it. But I’m pretty ham fisted at that part anyway, lol.
Hi Warren, no I have not used Wendy before…last year I did a few crosses using irresistible as a seed parent, and got very little for my efforts…as indeed I had been warned (!)
The seeds germinating now are mainly OPs…I am using them to gain some experience in handling rose seeds and seedlings. This lack of experience and knowledge led me to ask such a broad question…as most of the cultivars I have appear to not be overly seed fertile. I had overlooked Wendy.
As a result of input from members of this forum, and plenty of time on HMF, I think I have the start of a breeding “harem” to work with. Wendy, Soroptomist Int’l, Pink Petticoat, Hot Tamale, Rexy’s Baby (has a faint stripe) and a few others as seed parents, along with Scentimental, Ab Fabulous and possibly one or two others, as well as the pollen from various Patio/miniflora.
(which begs the question, which, Patio or Miniflora is the correct term??)
Thanks again,
Duncan

How. How? HOW have I missed until now that Work of Art (which I have) is from the same cross as (the rather legendary) Joycie AND Cal Poly?!?!
This changes a few things in next year’s crossings.
