Roses with velveteen leaf undersides?

I’ve only seen it on the obverse leaf surface of one of my seedlings.

Pubescent leaf heredity question

Below is a top-side leaf picture of an Heirloom x WWII Memorial seedling. It has a velvety appearance to the leaves, similar to an African Violet, but much shorter. While this cross had a high % of germination (maybe 15 out of 20 seeds) most were born chlorotic, or just very weak, and only three have made it past 6 weeks. None of the other hip-mates display this characteristic. My question: is this an anomaly, of is there a species which displays this behavior? I don’t have a Sweet Briar for c…
