Rose Breeding & Progagation

I found the following web site “Northern Hybrid Roses” to have interesting information on techniques they use for rose breeding and propagation.

Apparently they are pursuing hardy and disease resistant roses to expand upon the form and color available from the Explorer and Morden roses as well as developing hardy minis.

Line NO2-99 looks the best to me personally. Im not a huge fan of the bland pink shades but (by the picture, would need to experience it in person for better detail) the cluster formation combined with the interesting petal/bloom shape and what seems like healthy foliage makes this line look really optimal.

Im glad these guys are up to the challenge. It seems like a long road but definately needed.

Looks like MANY fine roses being developed by this place! When released, I’m HOPING plenty will prove HARDY here in my zone 3 garden!
