Hi Bob !
I ordered quite many hardy Kordes roses last winter/ spring, also the newest ones, and have to say, that Caramella is one of the very bests! Really healthy and very fertil. You cannot be disapointed with it ! And of course the blooms are fabulous.
I do not know, if you have ever tried Postillion, but it seems to set hips very well also - much better than Westerland. I was surprised, that it seems to be quite heat tolerant as well !
Pia,
I’ve looked at Postillion but didn’t know much about it. I think I prefer the fuller blossom of Caramella over Postillion. I’m limited on garden space so I went with Caramella. Thank you for the additional suggestion. I’m a little surprised that there wasn’t more information here on the forum re: Caramella.

Rob, I have Postillion at my kid sister’s in the Santa Clarita Valley. It is ginormous in a longer, warmer climate. Sets HUGE hips, quite clean in that arid weather. Large, floppy, amber/yellow-ish flowers with good scent. It really is a climber there. She doesn’t do anything, ANYTHING to it and it throws itself into every tree, shrub, neighbor’s yard. It’s a nice plant there, but rather huge with overly long canes before there are any flowers. It definitely loves a longer, hotter climate. Kim
Thanks Kim! Definitely not one for my purposes then.
Kim, my Postillion is in its first year, but it already has a reasonable size. It definitely is VERY vigorous.
Huh, I think I have to move it to arrange more room for it.
It got sun whole day in the heat, but it did not seem to bother it.
