Nice job Bo! Chances are this is a self so you can expect increased vigor in the next generation of crosses. Yellow and fragrant is always a good thing.
I too say : ‘Sutters Gold’ !
I have the climbing one which is now 45 years old !
The bud union is now about 8 inches across. When it was about 10 years old it covered the whole south wall of my house about 30 feet wide. One year I counted appr. 350 blooms.
Westerland x Sutter’s Gold seems worthwhile.
Thanks George.
Your old Sutters Gold sounds like an impressive fine rose! Have you try to use it further?
It is really an excellent rose I think and I have now used its pollen on Westerland as Jadae mentioned and on H
Hi Bo,
Have I tried it using further you asked ?
It was one of the first roses I tried for hybridizing when I started in 1969.
I got a few seedlings from it but since it was a climber it took 2 years to see my first blooms. After that I stayed away from climbers and shrubs which mostly bloom on second year wood.
Two seedlings were extremely fragrant, but mildewed like crazy and I did not keep them.
