Has anyone used either Lac la Nonne or Carlos Dawn? It seems like both of these plants could be very valuable. Especially for winter hardiness. If my assumption is right the only major problem would be getting these plants. They do not seem to be available in the states.
Adam,
I’ve worked with ‘Carlos Dawn’. Poor germination with it as a pistillate parent last year and that surprised me. Most of my crosses were with Rosa wichurana.
‘Lac La Nonne’ is available from an Alaskan source. In fact, that is how I reintroduced it to Canada after it disappeared many years ago. A good example how important it is to spread rose cultivars that don’t have much commercial but perhaps breeding potential around.
