Is this normal?

I have some Joshua Bradley X Purple Passion seeds on sand in a petri dish which received 6 weeks in vermiculite bag at room temp. and then 2 months at 40 degrees in refrig and there are two seeds with the hard outer shells laying next to the inside part of the seed and the seed is just barely staring to sprout and several of the other seeds are just starting to split open and will probably do the same thing. It just looks weird to me. I am new at this seed germinating thing and I just thought the hard outer shell would stay with the inner part til it germinated. I’m just worried the soft part will rot before it is germinated.

Pat, take it whatever way you can get it. It sounds as though those seeds are about ready to pot up.
