One of my yearly goals is to create interesting red/yellow/pink/apricot blends. I was beginning to despair that I might not get anything very exciting for my efforts this spring, when this guy: ((Jude the Obscure x Kardinal 85) x Sunsprite)
OP seedling of Blue Gravity(Takunori Kimura, Japan, before 2020).
it bloomed in pale grey and became porcelain white under natural light next day.
pointy petals and altered pistil.
light unfamiliar fragrance.
With reference to the already shown very young seedling from 27. Jan 2025, R. stellata ‘Mir’ X ‘Eye of the Tiger’ I want to show the actual status. The seedling is presently in the greenhouse as it is still too cold outside. I’m curious to see how it will develop outdoors later.
I am surprised and very happy with this still young seedling, which appears to be a Moss - Modern rose. Its juvenility is a highly appreciated bonus. The pistillate parent is the David Austin Rose ‘The Squire’, the pollen parent a modern, unfortunately nameless dark red, double, smaller-flowered rose.
I will be curious to see an update later on this seedling from The Squire!
Very interesting!
I have several plants from The Squire with various other parents, all of which I am testing in breeding right now. I will be curious to see how yours does. Also, the color? The fragrance? Also, especially, vigor and disease resistance later. Good luck with this one!
Duane
When I came back today, the juvenile flower of the small Moss-Modern seedling had opened and already wilted a little. Nevertheless, I managed to get a first impression.
The previous days the velvety color became deep dark red at the bud. Yesterday it lightened a little and took on a purple hue. The color of the petals is somewhat darker than in the second photo and tends more towards purple. A kind of strong purplish red. 12 - 14 petals. Unfortunately, red tones in all their many facets are always difficult to capture in photographs.
The fragrance seems to be similar to ‘The Squire’, bit more spicy, but weaker at this stage.
It remains exciting to see how the complete development will continue. I’ll keep you posted.
Love all those seedlings! Mine are more humble, but I have two seedlings from my Temple Bells X Musquee sans souci seedling. One with Westzeit (Noack floribunda) and one with Simsalabim (striped Kordes shrub) as pollen parents. Very excited to see them develop especially because it is a second generation cross!
Another one of my (Temple bells X Musquee sans souci) X something seedlings. This time with Christine Helene as pollen parent. Christine Helene is a repeat flowering helenae hybrid, possibly with Ghislaine de Feligonde as pollen parent.
