Andy,
You know what to do - get another dog! I watched this happen to us some years ago in another home. Really a super bummer after waiting and watching for months. Here i have a couple of acres, but our neighbors have dogs so have never seen a deer.
Andre, if it’s any consolation, and if my experience is any indication, even if you weren’t color-blind, your wife would still tell you you can’t dress yourself.
When I moved to Austin a few years back, we had a unit in a complex that has lots of deer in the neighborhood. At first I thought it really wonderful, but after trying to landscape our entrance, I now see them as long-legged rodents.
(Coyote urine deterrent is useless if you live in a neighborhood where every dog pees on everything anyway… I never did figure out how to discourage the dumb beasts.)
Floral spray paint contains NO CFC propellants and are non-toxic. And they do not harm the flower or the leaves of the plant. They have long been used in the floral industry to get that perfect match without harming delicate floral tissue. But they are expensive–usually between $10.and $14.00 dollars per can, and they go a long way. Read the labels, I am sure that there are some toxic ones out there, especially the ones used in model building, etc.
Well, actually I was kind of joking about tagging the hips with spray paint, though it does seem a quick option. I would assume that such would prevent the hips from transpiring and kill them. But I was really surprised to hear of someone using a paint pen directly on the hips.
Here in Austin, spray paint is put under lock and key at the hardware stores, and you must be over 18 to purchase it. Don’t ask me why.
It’s under lock and key for the same reasons it’s been locked up here for the past twenty-plus years. Presumably, it keeps graffiti down by making the paint harder to steal and it makes it harder for kids to huff the fumes. Both rely heavily on the theft of the product. Keeping it under lock and key and only selling it to “adults” supposedly helps keep both problems under check.
