Hybrid Virginiana Leaf and Stem Variations.

An other R. Virginiana cross Mimas X R. virginiana

[attachment 1208 MimasXsym.jpg] Has 16 petals.

The foliage looks very good, as does the flower.

I love the glossiness of virginiana. I have a few hips pollinated with it, and I’m eager to see the results.

they are pretty good looking plants, foliage is real nice. All these offspring have been used as pollinators, will be interesting to see the results , and also see if they will repeat for me. I have fertilized a typical full double Austin, a cupped form Austin and a modern floribunda type It will be interesting to see the results of what form, has the greatest influence.

Nice work so far Warren. Will look forwar to what comes out of these crosses.

Great line Warren! Keep them coming! I especially like the dark single.

Does your virginiana clone itself look like this one I used to grow?

Tom

Thanks Tom, those have already gone into this years breeding programme. There are two more to come, one has yet to flower, probably by the weekend, it has an huge bud. The other is hot pink, single with a large array of anthers.

Tom my R. virginiana looks like yours in the pic

The single red seedling is a rippa! Virginiana suckers like crazy… does this seedling sucker? A seedling I have that is 'Wild Rover’x ‘Tuscany Superb’ suckers like champion.

Thanks Simon, the red is quite bright , I was hoping Sympathie would do that for me. My virginiana suckers quite badly , but none of these have shown this trait yet, fingers crossed.

Couple more shots of the Virginiana Hybrids

[attachment 1234 SymXvirgredpinkcombo.jpg] The pink hybrid behind is very upright in its growth compared with the red which tends to sprawl

[attachment 1235 LollypinkSymXVirg.jpg] The hot pink

[attachment 1236 DoubleSymXVirg.jpg] Structure is a little untidy but at least it has a stack of petals to work with.

Very nice! I love the dark colored one!

It is amazing what you guys are getting in species crosses so close to the species.

Here are some pics of the Sympathie X R. virginiana, those pollinated, have hips now forming.

[attachment 1249 SymXVirg6mpinkdbl.jpg] A better pic of the double mid pink

[attachment 1257 MimasXsym.jpg] Used this to pollinate Charles Austin which is now forming a huge hip. This should be an interesting cross with Mimas’s background and Virginina’s leaf structure and health.

This should be an interesting cross

Has the makings of a classic. Pity you can’t send us (me) budwood for hardiness testing.

By looking at this, all I can gather is, the Sympathie X R. virginiana seedlings are fertile, all are covered with similar hips which are full of seed.

These Hybrids formed abundant hips, these OP hips have been collected and seed processed to send OS.
