Went to the store to buy 16oz. styrofoam cups and a small bag of good potting mix to follow the protocol for cuttings. Ended up with three bags of the 64 quart Black Gold for half price (torn bags) and stopped for a look at the minis. That done it, four roses in a 1/2quart pot and the lady said they where good to go outside and would get about 18" tall. Then pointed out some with bigger flowers (3") that would grow to two ft. The bigger ones had four to the pot also and a tag (Palace Rose) brand, with info of 2x2ft. good for zones 6-10 grown in Calf. My choice has glossy leaves and now there 12 new minis here. Didn’t see stamens but the pistils looked good. Neil
I’m curious that Parade type roses always seem to have a PBR (or applied for) symbol on the tag. I wonder how that can be applied (or is it just a bluff/bully boy tactic) if the specific cultivar is not identified?

I just bought another SMOOTH yellow mini today. A Poulsen. Bought a dark red one about 4 weeks ago. Another smoothie. My sister cut two buds from my dark pink one when I wasn’t looking . I have noticed the buds have been in water almost a week and have expanded slightly but still hold the high tight center and are absolutely lovely.
I have to plant my 4 to the pots out in the ground. (Up to six pots now!!!) My coral/orange one seems to be forming 2 hips on it from when it was inside. These are my new playthings to work with making smoothies since all the ones I bought had smooth canes and rachi (plural of rachis???). I didn’t buy a smooth bicolor when I had the chance and could kick myself.
One is a Kordana and the others are all Poulsen, all with the generic tag which I hate. I can remember buying them in the grocery and box stores 10 years ago with specific plant labels. So called progress.
I had Vanilla Kordana a decade ago and it was very healthy outside. Died due to neglect (total shade and no water) on my part. Bought my first ones in January and got flushes of flowers every month. Have been impressed and looking forward to seeing how they do outside and how well they do as breeders. Time will tell.
As far as the tag with all the patent ranges, if you don’t know specifically what you have bought, how can you be held to not propagating it but then, all laws are not just.Still remember a quote from a mystery novel years ago. When a friend of a suspect was being quizzed by a detective, she said, “Are you talking about the law or justice. They are not the same thing you know.” After I thought about it I thought she is right.

Looking forward to playing with my live toys!!!

I have always interpreted this labeling to specifically mean hands off propagating me unless you have a licence to do so.
Rod,(in Oz I think) if it is only a PBR symbol on a tagged rose I would be suspicious. It should carry details on the back. If the rose is not named I would ask the salesperson for info. I would go tthe IPAustralia site and check.
I deal with one nursery here in Oz and thier cat still carries that DA’s “Heritage” is under PBR now.
Having just succumbed to the miniature roses that I have resisted for the last month I question price and value. If I wanted or needed them I would gladly pay full price or more 3 for $15, but at 3 for $5 I could not pass them up. I purchased Charlie Brown, Bambino, Sweet Fairy, and Live Wire. As Jim said looking forward to playing with my live toys except I dont know what I am going to do with them other than add them to the collection.
Update Por La Mar hips are looking great I can see at least 3 seeds per hip they are about 12 weeks old, I am considering harvisting them and trying to germinate this fall.

What an experience with these, bought a pot of four bright yellow thornless while down south a couple weeks ago and after repotting now are pale multi color. Some earlier ones are now 18 inches tall and other than one flower/four plants not another flower yet. I think Philip is right about hormones and stuff added for sales effect. If they can do this with plants, makes me wonder what there is on the books for humans. Neil
