I used pollen of “Closer to Heaven” Paul Barden sent to me on Vavoom, Livin’ Easy, Goldilocks, Honey Perfume, Windemere, Buttermint and Cal Poly.
Windemere and Goldilocks hips all aborted. Half of the Cal Poly aborted and the others don’t look good.
Honey Perfume, Vavoom, Buttermint and Livin’ Easy have large plump hips. I’m really hopeful that HP will get me started on my crested yellow. The other should be interesting.
Honey Perfume is the most desirable of the lot for me. Even Livin Easy breeds bs prone babies =( I know HP can breed mildew though.
Shockwave sets fatty hips like crazy if you are interested in it. It likes to make rather large, round hips. Its kind of surprising considering that its not that huge of a plant lol. Its basically Goldmarie 82 with improved health, stronger color and a more compact habit. Everything I put on it this year set.
Yellow is a difficult color to work with, and improvements are beign made slowly. So, there is no perfect solution. Its more of a situation of picking one set of negative traits over another, lol.

Thanks for the information. I’ve looked for some other yellows including Shockwave locally and at Heirloom. I guess I need to go the mailorder way.
I’m going to grow out all the hips on LE this year. I’ve got a bunch coming on. Sort of curious to see what OP seedlings come out of it.
