First flower of the season.

Today I was looking from the sunroom towards the back of the property and I saw something red. It sure looked like a flower but I have been fooled before so at first I was not going to look at it. Well, curosity got the better of me so I put my garden shoes on and went to look. Sure enough, my old eyes can still see! The flower was on a cross between (Calocarpa X R. Nutkana X OP) and my suspected tetraploid acicularis.

Calocarpa X Nutkana was hybridized by Randy Hudges.

Calocarpa is a diploid (14 chromosomes) and is a rugosa

It’s hard to believe it’s mid-May and you’re just getting started there. I am almost done.
