Today the most unusual, vigorous and healthy seedling was culled. It was twice the size and looking more and more like a weed.
It was a weed, I hope?!
Culled? Why?
Thornless also!
Loving the humor!
Funny!
And it transplanted realy well.
I have a friend who cringes every time I mention the word “cull”. She says you cull cattle, but select roses! Sort of like some folks ask if roses have a smell - she tells them garbage have a smell or odor, roses have fragrance! Words of Wisdom…
Good points. Well, I “selected” well today. I recycled 150 x 5 gallon nursery cans with my favorite nursery. Then, I sent 46 roses; 1 x 15 gallon; 2 x 7 gallon; 1 x 1 gallon and 42 x 5 gallon roses home with a friend who will give them a good home. I’ve updated my HMF rose list which went from 306 to 257 varieties. But, that’s misleading because there are several of which I have multiples (6 x Tom Thumb; 4 x Cineraire; 4 x Minutifolia; etc.)
That doesn’t take into consideration the many seedlings, both mine and those shared with me which have no names. Only about a hundred more pots to go! IF I’m going to have a pot ghetto, it WILL be my own seedlings waiting for their ‘selection’ process! Kim
Sorry but I disagree: for cows it would depend if your a buyer or seller and smell is a total spectrum, some flowers would have a fragrance like garbage. If it’s not broke don’t fix it. It’s an interesting concept though, had me going there for a bit.
