Has anyone played with the poly Doc? It’s a generation removed from Robin Hood and remains a tighter, heavy blooming mound around here. Kordes created Iceberg from Robin Hood and Virgo. I’ve been wondering what Doc might do with Paloma Blanca? And, with Lynnie X Pride of Oakland (LynPoO).
The goal would be something as manically flowering as Iceberg in a more dwarf, controlled plant. The shade tolerance might be a nice thing to hope for, too. Doc is very healthy here as is LynPoO.
I’m going to need a Candy Oh! Vivid Red, too, I see…
Not into Happy? Thats next years goal for myself. Im curious why Happy isnt doing it for you. I hope mildew isnt why, lol. red + poly usually = bad news.
Hi Jadae, well, I have Cl. Happy and I have Doc. I just like Doc, but Bashful and some of the others (except Dopey because of its arthritic appearance and dirty color) are of interest. Kim
Cliff has Bukavu, but it has too much Ballerina in it for me. I hope to engineer the dwarf character from the foundation rather than try to dwarf a Great White. Britannia has too much mildew for me. If I wanted to go that route, I’d use Anda, which I already grow. I don’t dislike Happy, I just LIKE Doc.
Bukavu itself is superior to Ballerina. Its foliage is way cleaner and the sprays are absolutely beautiful. I got mine from Heirlooms. They always carry random Lens roses out of the blue …then drop them without notice. I hated Ballerina, blech. Bukavu would make a standard, possibly, by the way. It is quite upright and stiff. Which reminds me, I got the 1937 ARS annual for xmas and it was goign on about Paul’s Scarlet as both easy to root and good for standards. IDK about now, but they seemed to think so then.
Hi Jim, yes, Burling and Cliff sell it. If you’re going to the Friends of Sequoia event next month, you may be able to have her bring you one to pick up there. Rogue Valley and Vintage also sell it.
