Six bailey var oiieties are available in 2011 from rosefire.com They ship nice 1 gal own roots. Has anyone gotten seedlings out of the easy elegance varieties? Kashmir is triploid so probably not much fertiity.

They look interesting, but even without that shipping,
“we will begin spring season early, April, 2011”. By then, here, we can have high 90s and into the low hundreds. Bare roots had better be leafed out already and nearly finished with the first flush or they aren’t going to make it. Own root plants do OK, but I’m usually well underway with pimping pollen by April! I know, year round roses are a “burden”! LOL!
Rosefire MIGHT be willing to bareroot plants and ship earlier than April; this would greatly reduce shipping cost.

Someone needs to invent sealable hydrosheets or something that are cheap to produce, light weight and can product 1 year old bare root yet own root roses in shipping. Then, roses, and other plants too, could be shipped in manilla envelopes as if they were documents.
jadae, back in the early to mid eighties, I received Blue Ribbon and Azure Seas from Springhill bare, bare root sealed in a cardboard box. Nothing in it but two plants, so a similar idea has been used. Kim
If you’re interested in the Bailey varieties, you might get in touch with Ping Lim. He is no longer breeding roses for Bailey (which no longer has a rose breeding program), but I think you can buy some or all of the Bailey varieties through Ping. His website is linked below. I don’t know what the cost would be with shipping, but I don’t think it would cost anything to inquire.

I have a Kashmir rose but I had to remove it because it had roseette. I took some cuttings from a healthy part of the plant. I hope the cuttings will grow alot next year so I can use it for some more crosses. Last year I quite a few seedlings from it. A few are mostly free of diseases. I bought it at a local nursery. The one I like the best is almost back in bud and then dark red like Kashmir but with almost no thorns.
I had emailed Ping about a rose that he had registered and he did not have it any more.
Shipping can be more than the rose. I have paid over $50 for a bare root rose from CA.
Chadwick arboretum in Columbus Oh had (has?) a test gatden for easy elegance roses using earth kind maintenance. The roses looked very good a couple years ago.
From my understanding Chamblees Roses will be able to sell Bailey roses and has recently become a licensed propagator. So, that will be another great option and those roses will be actively growing own-root plants in gallon pots. It probably won’t be until the 2012 season in order to get stock built and ready to sell. I’m excited for this added alternative for us to get Bailey roses via mail order and in a way that allows them to be shipped over a timeframe than bareroot. Bareroot of course is nice too.
