ATTEMPTING GERMINATION OF ONE MATURE ROSE EMBRYO IN A 10% DILUTE NPK FERTILIZER SOLUTION + DARKNESS

I took the initial success of the previous dilute NPK solution experiment (see above), one step further a few days ago:

I decided to plonk a newly extracted OP Iceberg embryo in a glass filled with a solution of 10% X(full strength) N-P-K fertilizer solution, AND also put this glass container immediately in a dark cupboard.

I had three basic questions that led to this experiment:

  1. Can embryos liquid-germinte in a dark cupboard?

  2. How much dilute N-P-K solution can these things take?? LOL!

  3. Can the darkness cause a real reduction in the % of cases showing “radicle blunting” and promote more cases of rootlet formation?

Anyway, here is how it looks today, a few days into this dark + fertilized liquid treatment:

Now back into the cupboard!

Here is is now, ~24 hrs later.

I just sowed it in seed raising mix, I am guessing it has started a good rate of “radicle extension”?

From tomorrow, I’ll water the pot once daily with the 10% X (full strength) NPK diluted fertilizer (I’ll put some of this solution in the hand mister and spray the surface to keep it all moist…trying not to apply too heavy a watering which might sink it too low below the surface of the mix).

I think it has been in the dark+fertilizer solution environment for just under one week now (didn’t keep record, close enough anyways!).

Pictured this morning (just over one week since sowing it), here is the above embryo germinating above the surface of the seed raising mix. I have continued to apply daily 10%X(full strength) N-P-K fertilizer solution to it all this time in the seed raising mix:

By its current rate of growth, this one looks like it will be fully up in the next 24-48hrs.

I am going to continue the once daily application of the diluted fertilizer solution to this seedling.

BTW…the N/P/K ratio of the soluble fertilizer I have been using throughout this thread = 15N/4P/26K.
