Agree with all that; showing, exposing, educating is one thing, competing is another completely different ballgame and it can bring out the worst in us. That’s partially why I dropped out of the ARS and the local rose society; their focus was not mine.

Agree with Jim Sproul and thought the other day, why can’t we use the member’s showcase for this. Use to go on it and loved seeing what everyone was doing but don’t bother anymore since it seems to be totally static now. Maybe we should revitalize that up?

Like the friendly focused but laid back atmosphere here. It’s a joy to come on and see the photos of everyone’s work in progress as well as read the concerns and experiences of everyone. Love to read about them and learn…

Bob: My cameras have a “close up” setting, which is easy to use. I plug the cable from the camera in pc. The rest is done automatically.

I am sure when you have done that once, you can do it, without waiting for your daughter to show up. Looking forward to watch your seedling flowers asap

Jim: yes my intention was to get more pictures on the Forum, but a competition is clearly not the way.

But if members more often post new pictures in to the Members’ Showcase it could be a good solution.

Bo,

I realize you had the best of intentions and I agree, we all LOVE looking at the new seedlings in their baby pictures, teen age stage, and maturity. I personally always enjoy them and it is always a positive learning curve for me. Have enjoyed your posts by the way, thanks.

To me, the showcase as presently set looks kind of intimidating. Too many winners of awards. I would suggest a subsection could be set up for each year, as mentioned above, and simply labeled “results of the year 20xx”. Then eventually you could put in ones that are undergoing plans for introduction, AOE etc, into a real showcase.
